They say that nothing lasts forever, but relationships can. The wonderful and challenging thing about relationships is that dynamics evolve, they take a lot of effort, we inevitably see things differently and we are motivated by different things.

I have had to learn, like many others, to listen more and judge and direct less. The extent to which any of us are effective when it comes to parenting, management, leadership or even client development comes down to the quality of our relationships, the effort we put in and our ability to put aside our ego.

I’ve still got plenty to learn but appreciate the daily dose of inspiration from Aidan whose smile and humour now can carry me through the more challenging days.

I suspect we would all benefit from stopping for a moment and asking, where do I need to make a bit more of an effort?
